Jennifer Trainer Thompson

to the Stephentown Memorial Library.

Jennifer Trainer Thompson is the author of a dozen books, including the best-selling Beyond Einstein. Her articles on science, food, travel, and lifestyle have appeared in the New York Times, Travel + Leisure, Omni, and more. She is also the creator, owner, and chef of the “Jump Up and Kiss Me” brand of food products. She lives with her husband and children in western Massachusetts.

This presentation and reading will focus on her recent book, The Joy of Family Traditions, which not only explores the historical, cultural, and often quirky origins of holidays, customs, and milestones, but also inspires families to preserve, personalize, and create meaningful traditions of their own.

 She will also sell and sign books after the talk.  This is a perfect opportunity to get a jump on the holidays and get into the spirit of the season.

Join us on Friday, November 20 at 6:30 PM for fun for Tweens at the Stephentown Memorial Library.  This popular monthly program for tweens age 10-14 is a great way to spend a summer evening.  This month features Guitar Hero on our big screen in the Community Room.  We will have pizza, snacks, and more.  Come on out and bring your friends!

Thursdays, 10 AM in the SML Community Room

Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)!  Join us each Thursday for some story time fun! In this half-hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about, and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize.  Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator.

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, December 3.  They will discuss the book Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang by Joyce Carol Oates.

Joyce Carol Oates’s Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang is a novel about young women lost in the violent male-dominated 1950’s who band together to work out a revenge for what has happened to women before and since. Foxfire is thus a novel about crimes against women in the United States and about what happens to the young women who unite to fight the people and the systems that perpetuate those crimes.

Monthly Book Discussion Group meetings are held in the Community Room at the Library from noon to 1:00  p.m.  Bring a lunch if you like.  Copies of the book are available at the library desk.  New readers are always welcome.  For more information, call 518-733-5750.
